Vegetable oils are used in personal care products because they contain many of the essential nutrients that the body uses to maintain healthy skin tissue.
Many oils used today are rich in Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) - vital for the manufacture of tissues and the hormones which keep us going. Whilst we do absorb these EFAs through the foods we eat, it is also useful to apply them directly onto the skin as part of a moisturising lotion or face cream. Oils also provide a protective barrier and lubricant, a means for carrying other essential ingredients such as Vitamin E. Because they are made up of fatty acids similar to the body's own, they are often more easily absorbed than other synthetic compounds. This means that the beneficial effects of the oil can be applied directly to the affected area. As you can see, as well as being natural emollients, oils also have many other functions in the Personal Care and Pharmaceutical industry
